[edit]

BRIGHTON sci-fi fan Simon Watkins wanted an 'out of the world' party to celebrate his 21st.

He decided on a 'monster' fancy dress space party at the local Scout Hall — and to make sure he would be the star of the night he decided to build himself an electronic robot outfit.

Now any sci-fi fan worth his space ship knows about Daleks, the dangerous electronic exterminators of the BBC's Dr Who series.

Simon wanted to build his very own Dalek, so he wrote to the BBC, explained his problem, and the) sent him plans and specifications to build his 5'8" prototype.

After two months work, and more than $1,400 he had a complete working Dalek.

The date for the party wits set for March 22.

In the meantime, Simon, a Cub leader with the local Sea Scouts, decided to use his robot to help the Cubs raise money.

He had planned to climb in3ide the Dalek and spend yesterday touring local beaches to gather cash and support for the scouts.

His Dalek was loaded on a trailer ready to get an early morning start — but when Simon went to leave the $1400 robot had been stolen.

Late last night the slightly incredulous Brighton CIB were still investigating their first electronic robot theft.
