Doctor Who made a triumphant return ten years ago and after counting 280,000 votes, we can reveal your favourite episode...

SUCH IS THE timey-wimey nature of Doctor Who that hot on the heels of the Time Lord's 50th anniversary in 2013, we are celebrating his tenth. But, on 26 March, it will be a decade since Russell T Davies relaunched the Tardis to great acclaim on BBC1. It's remarkable for any drama series to clock up ten years, so to celebrate, RadioTimes.com ran a poll for readers to select their favourite episodes. A staggering 280,859 votes have been counted and now we can reveal the results for the first time.

STEVEN MOFFAT ON BLINK

You know, when I wrote it, I thought Blink was a perfectly serviceable script. Nothing special, did the job which, back then, was to have a Doctor Who story needing only two days' shooting from David Tennant. I haven't read the script in a long time, but I'm pretty sure I'd think the same now. What made it a little bit magical was, of course, the work of others.

First of all, the astonishing Hettie Macdonald, who took a script with statues for monsters and contemporary Earth for a planet, and gave it scale, grandeur and importance in every beautiful frame. (As I type, I'm delighted to say that Hettie is at long last back on the Who set, and again directing up a storm.) And then, there's the luminous Carey Mulligan, one heartbeat from stardom, demonstrating exactly why her future was so golden in a role I doubt she even remembers playing.

And lest we forget, here come the terrifying Weeping Angels for the very first time - the simple, brilliant, soul-freezing work of Neill Gorton and his amazing team. So thanks to all of them, because they're the ones who deserve it. And thanks also to the amazing David Tennant, [executive producer] Julie Gardner, [producer] Phil Collinson and the irreplaceable - I'm allowed to say that -- Russell T Davies.

Some days everything just works. Sometimes you just stand in the right spot, all the windows align and the sunshine reaches you. I don't think I can take a lot of the credit, but I'm very glad I was there when it happened.
