FOR followers of television's Dr Who seeks, this will be a familiar sight. The police box, converted Into a time machine, takes off with the intrepid doctor aboard.

But there's a down-to-earth explanation for this photograph. It's all part of the programme to phase out police boxes, which have become largely obsolete as officers on the beat now have personal radios.
