[edit]

ANYBODY who has been watching Dr. Who on BBC-1 on Saturdays knows that the three time travellers—Dr. Who (William Hartnell), Steven (Peter Purees) and Dodo (Jackie Lane) have been keeping company with Monoids. strange beings of the future who have only one eye and that situated at the stop where the nose and mouth ought to be. Now this adventure is over and we shall see no more of the Monoids. I am sorry about this--I had grown quite attached to them and their sealion-like feet.

Most of the praise for this particular adventure must go to Daphne Dare, who designed the costumes worn by these strange people and also those worn by the humans of the future.

Paul Ericson and Lesley Scott who wrote the story showed plenty of imagination, but this episode was very jerky, with much coming and going which took a lot of concentration to understand. It was rather a brutal story with a short sermon from Dr. Who to make it all right. Not an episode in which anyone I could shine but Eileen Helsby, as Venussa, seemed as though she genuinely cared about the future of the Monoids.
