Peter Capaldi is nieuwe 'Doctor Who'
De Schotse acteur Peter Capaldi wordt de nieuwe hoofdrolspeler in de populaire Britse tv- serie Doctor Who. Hij is de twaalfde acteur die het personage van de Doctor zal vertolken. De sciencefictionserie viert dit jaar haar vijftigste verjaardag en gaat over het buitenaardse wezen Doctor Who dat de aarde beschermt tegen haar buitenaardse vijanden. Capaldi is vooral bekend als de scrupuleuze spindoctor Malcolm Tucker uit de BBC- serie The Thick of It. Het nieuws werd bekendgemaakt in een grote live- uitzending op BBC. Capaldi, die zich een levenslange Doctor Who- fan noemt, is erg opgetogen: "Het is zo fantastisch dat ik dit niet langer geheim hoef te houden. Dit is een enorm privilege. Zoals de Doctor zelf voel ik me in een staat van opperste angst en blijdschap. Ik kan niet wachten om te beginnen." Capaldi is 55 jaar oud. Dat is even oud als William Hartnell toen hij gecast werd voor de rol van de eerste Doctor in 1963.
