[edit]

IT takes a lot to bring Chelsea's King's Road to a standstill these days.

But a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car did yesterday, and had everyone guessing. Is it old, or new?

The answer is-both. For the Siva is a glass fibre bodied replica of an Edwardian roadster, using mechanical parts from the old Ford Popular. It is the brain child of 26-year-old Mike Saunders, from Bournemouth, Hants.

The fun buggy does up to 35 miles on a gallon, and reaches 60 miles an hour.

And the body weigh as much as just one of the old Pop's doors, The Siva costs £355 in basic form for the two-seater and £405 for the four-seater.

Extras such as coach lamps, headlamps, windscreen. hood. bulb horn. heater and side curtain cost another £120.

Side screens to stop rain and draughts are now being perfected. and Mike's firm. Siva Engineering, of Wesmouth, hopes it will be an export winner in America

Mr. Christopher Soames. Britain's ambassador in Paris, has ordered one, and B.B.C. TV's Dr. Who - John Pertwee takes delivery on Tuesday of a four-seater.

My yellow one will be arriving at home shortly.
