DR. WHO The BBC's sci-fi adventure series about Dr. Who started in 1963 and was aimed at "older children." (Obviously that was before the term "pre-teens" was coined.) It's been running strong ever since, with the Doctor travelling through time in his red London police box saving the world from dastardly aliens. His most infamous foils have been the Daleks, robots with really, really deep voices. Every few years a new actor is called in to play Dr. Who and, over time, the sci-fi effects have become more complex and impressive. The series is being revived now, starting with this new TV movie, a BBC/Fox co-production made in Vancouver. Paul McGann (The Hanging Gale, Paper Mask) is the new Doctor and he's a good choice - handsome, charming, and not too threatening an action hero for young boys and girls. Mind you, it's mostly adult British males who've turned Dr. Who into a formidable cult series. Some boys will be boys forever. Fox 9 p.m.
