[edit]

A new horror from outer space, the Monoid - the one-eyed ginger-haired thing - is on the trail of the B.B.C.'s time traveller Dr. Who.

The Monoid is not a slimy as a Slither, or as fiendish as a Dalek, but pretty horrid all the same.

To help Dr. Who battled this new terror comes former "Compact" actress Jackie Lane. And they all mets for the first time at the B.B.C.'s Riverside Studios yesterday.

Beneath the rubber horror costume was 28 year-old actor Ray Byrom, who said: "It's very hot and stuffy under all this rubber."

The Monoid is meant to frighten a race of humans called the Guardians who are fleeing from a doomed Earth in a giant space-age Noah's Ark.

But a group of leggy Guardian girls didn't seem very scared in the studios yesterday. Said one of them, blonde Jan Williams: "We think he looks a bit like Mick Jagger."
