ACTOR Colin Baker, once a "JR" type television villain, is to take on the role of one of the small screen's most-loved heroes, Dr Who.
He takes over from Peter Davison as the sixth doctor during the next series, to be screened in 1984.
Colin was a forerunner of J. R. Ewing as the man viewers love to hate, when he played Paul Merroney, the "nasty" in the BBC series "The Brothers".
And he was a villain when he made a previous appearance in "Dr Who" — playing a character who shot the Doctor.
Colin was the head of the guard on the home of the Time Lords. He said: "At the end of one episode I shot Dr Who. But of course he escaped."
Colin (40), is married to actress Marion Wyatt, who is expecting a child at the end of September — near the time they celebrate their first wedding anniversary.
