The Doctor's newest companion, Bill Potts, is gay — making her the series' first regular LGBTQ character. The buzz following the BBC's announcement was deemed a whole lot of "fuss" by show runner Steven Moffat with Pearl Mackie, who plays Potts, adding: "[Being gay] is not the main thing that defines her character — it's something that's part of her and something that she's very happy and very comfortable with." Rightly so, but still — a quick high-five for small-screen diversity?
