I WONDER If Dalek creator Terry Nation was attacked by a pugnacious pepperpot the day he sat at his dining-table, trying to dream up new ideas for Doctor Who.
The Daleks made the series like nothing before or since It. look off in the public Imagination when schoolboys started gliding across the playground screeching "Ext-ter-min-ate" in that nasal whine beloved of the beastly little robots which look like crazy cruets
Friends
It was rather like meeting old friends again last night when the talking tin-cans reappeared to have yet another go at conquering everything in sight for the latest DOCTOR WHO adventure on BBC1 Resurrection Of The Daleks. Familiarity has relieved them of much of their menace, but none of their bizarre comedy value.
"You - show - more - respect for - the - supreme - Dalek" rasped one pepperpot that looked much like any other pepperpot. Its obviously tough at the top,
Even Rula Lenska as a doctor trying to repel the invading hordes and give antiwar lectures at the same time or ex-Likely Lad Rodney Bewes in a dingy spacesuit that looked as lf tied been down a few extraterrestrial drains couldn't compare silt those irascible automatons.
" I - cannot - see- My - vision is - impaired," wailed one Dalek over and over like stuck record after its seeing stalk had been blasted to smithereens. I did admire its ability to express itself in the best Queen's English under the most adverse circumstances.
In the end, fugitive-from-the-Daleks Mr Bewes turned
out to be a bad fun. Well, he'd rather given the game away in advance by twitching violently all over the place No one could be that nervous and not have something up his spacesuit sleeve.
I await with interest what the Daleks will do to him in next week's episode if he fails them.
