IMAGINE Kate O'Mara doing an impression of Bonnie Langford.
Then how about "Bulman" actor Don Henderson "killing" Ken Dodd?
It may seem ridiculous, but these are just some of the plots written into the new series of 'Doctor Who' screened next month.
In the first episode Bonnie, who return as the time traveller accomplice Melanie, is the victim of a bizarre double-take by Kate. Kate pretends she's Bonnie's character, gulling the new time-hard, Sylvester McCoy.
Breaking off front filming, Bonnie says: "It sounds hard to believe, but Kate does a better impression of me than I do."
The 23-year-old actress was just finishing work on a new series of the show. After the "on-off-on-off" nervousness of last year, the shoe is back with a vengeance it will be screened on Monday nights, between 'Wogan' said a new series of 'Hi-De-Hi," in direct competition with Coronation Street."
The 14 episodes are backed up with a galaxy of top names, splendid new locations, and eye-popping creatures. In one episode Don Henderson plays a leather-clad killer called Gavrok who takes a fatal disliking to Kenn Dodd, who gathers tolls between time zones.
In another Richard Briers appears as a manager of a gore-filled tower block. As for the new doctor McCoy, he is a dotty character, reminiscent of first 'time-traveller William Hartnell played partly for laughs, who wanders round in a panama hat and carries an umbrella.
Bonnie says "I'm not surprised we have so many star names in the show. It's the ambition of loads of actors to go on Doctor Who'
"I used to be scared of the programme and run under the settee when the Daleks came on. I like it more now."
But for Bonnie, at least, it will soon be an ambition fulfilled. The latest series is her last. She will not be killed off, leaving the door ajar for surprise reappearances, but Doctor Who will soon have a new assistant (actress Sophie Aldred, who plays character Ace).
Bonnie says "I have to keep doing new things, trying new challenges. I have had a wonderful time working on 'Doctor Who,' but I want to move on."
And there's plenty to move on to. Bonnie, who lives in a flat near her parents in London, will begin rehearsals this week with Paul Nicholas and Dora Bryan on stage musical "Charlie Girl," this year's Christmas show at the Birmingham Hippodrome. She is also working on a TV special with Paul called 'Paul Nicholas and Friends.'
Bonnie says: "We will be like one big family for the next few months. It's very exciting and I'm looking forward to coming to Birmingham."
