BEAUTIFUL Nicola Bryant, who left drama school only four months ago, is all set to help the kids' favourite time-traveller, Dr Who.

Nicola, who was born in Surrey but has lived much of her 21 years in the USA, plays the doctor's first American assistant.

She's cast as a character called Perpugilliam Brown —but Dr Who fans will be delighted to hear her tongue-twisting name will be shortened to Perry when the BBC series returns early in the New Year.

At her audition Nicola faced a rather unusual test. "They asked whether I could swim, because I'm first seen swimming on a Mediterranean holiday," she said.

"Fortunately I'm a pretty, good swimmer."
