Dalek Day

7.20am-8pm, UK Gold

Despite their slightly camp tendency towards hysteria, and their inability to negotiate a staircase, Dr Who's archenemies the Daleks remain a genuinely scary bunch of TV villains. So, if you fancy spending the bank holiday cowering behind the sofa, settle down for the first of two Dalek Days on UK Gold.

Today's 12-hour marathon focuses on the pre-Tom Baker era, kicking off with the 1963 seven-part debut outing for the pepper-pot shaped nasties, with William Hartnell as the Doctor. The best ever Dr Who story, Genesis of the Daleks, is reserved for the second leg on 26 May.
