[edit]

A BURNTWOOD man will be putting on his 3-D glasses and turning on the tv this week to watch a special episode of Dr Who - which he has written.

Twenty-two-year-old David Roden was commissioned to write a one-off episode of the famous BBC series for Children In Need, which will be televised on Friday and Saturday.

The two part revival titled Dimensions in Time will be shown on Friday evening at 8pm, with the second part being featured on Noel's House Party.

Episode

The episode comes 30 years after the first Dr Who programme was shown on the BBC and four years after the last episode was written for television. It features the five 'living' Doctors, and a host of characters from Eastenders.

Using a special technique the new 'serious' story will appear in 3-D to wearers of special glasses. Without the glasses the television pictures appear normal. David, whose real surname is Mansell, attended Chasetown High School and a four year drama course at the University of Kern - before being asked to write the new script earlier this year. David said: "It was extremely exciting and was quite a privilege to write."

So, will the Doctor be drawn into a black hole will the doctor be saved from the wrath of the Rani's monsters - will all the doctors be destroyed. Watch Children In Need to find out .....

The special 3D glasses are on sale at branches of WH Smith, Tesco, Boots Opticians, House of Fraser Stores, Argos and Radio Rentals price 99p a pair of which 25p goes to the appeal.

See feature on David Roden next week.
