[edit]

As a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, I'm intrigued by the latest incarnation's fondness for a white shirt with a very frayed collar. Apart from that it's pretty crisp, except for slightly grubby cuffs!

It's really noticeable in the exclusive photographs of Peter Capaldi by Richard Grassie for RT (24 June). Whose choice was it for the Doctor to favour wearing a shirt that can tell a thousand tales (or was the Tardis washer/dryer just playing up?).

Doctor Who costume designer Hayley Nebauer explains: "Peter and I talked about how the Doctor has many adventures, on and off camera, in and between episodes... so his clothing should look like it has been around the universe with him a few times. Hence, most of his clothing has been aged for series ten. The shirts are custom made by Budd Shirtmakers in London's Piccadilly."
