[edit]

When Doctor Who returns to our television screens in 1982, there will be a distinct Australian flavour. Viewers will see Brisbane-born actress Janet Fielding appear as the cosmos- travelling Doctor's latest assistant Tegan. The brown- haired beauty will line up alongside another newcomer, Peter Davison. Davison will be the new Doctor Who, replacing Tom Baker in the run of 1981 episodes expected to begin on ABC-TV here in March. For 24-year-old Janet, the Tegan part (right) comes as her big acting break. She arrived in Britain four years ago with a travelling theatre company and stayed, hoping to make a name for herself in British television. She was one of more than 40 girls who auditioned for the part to work alongside Davison, who is best known to viewers through his role as veterinary doctor Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small.
