As a television hit about things that are out of this world—and time—it’s only fitting that Doctor Who would celebrate its 50th anniversary in a big way.

Fans of the hit sci-fi show are used to seeing the show on the small screen, but for one night only, fans can experience a special episode of the show on the big screen.

The Athena Grand, in association with NCM Fathom and BBC America, will be hosting a screening of Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor, the special 50th anniversary episode that aired on the BBC on Saturday afternoon.

“The Day of The Doctor is upon us, and fans of the BBC AMERICA sci-fi series Doctor Who have the opportunity to see the time-traveling adventures like never before in 3-D from their local movie theater,” said Shelly Maxwell, executive vice president of NCM Fathom Events. “There’s never been a better time to be a Whovian during the 50th Anniversary celebration of this huge BBC hit that’s invaded America.”

The special is notable for starring not just one, but three separate Doctors, Matt Smith David Tennant and John Hurt, along with a variety of other surprises in store.

As of Friday, Rick Frame, general manager of the Athena Grand, said the theater has already sold more than 200 tickets for the event. At the time, the 7:30 p.m. 3-D showing was almost sold out, but there were still plenty of tickets available for the additional screenings for fans eager to see the episode on the big screen.

One of those excited fans is Matt Serafini, a freshman studying media arts and studies and a member of the Doctor Who Fan Club, who will be attending the 7:30 p.m. 3-D showing Monday night.

“The 3-D is going to be providing a new way to see and experience this event,” said Serafini. “I’m looking forward to seeing it on the big screen and being able to see it and actually be able to hear it completely this time.”

Since 1963, Doctor Who has become one of the BBC’s most iconic and adored shows. The show has gone through 12 actors who have played the title role, with the 13th doctor, Peter Capaldi, soon to be joining the show.
