Doctor Who BBC One, Saturday ★★★★☆

Doctor Who this week almost dispensed with the Doctor entirely in a story about weeping statues sucking the life out of people. It was really, really scary. The Doctor was stuck in 1969 and the heroine, Sally Sparrow, had to save the world herself. When she finally met the Doctor at the end, various time slippages meant that he didn't know she had reunited him with the Tardis. Not a clue what it was all about, but as ever the special effects and chippy dialogue sparkled. Now kids, don't blink near a statue; they mean harm.
