[edit]

As an ardent Dr. Who fan, I rejoiced at the return of the series recently. I especially like the fact that you are airing each story in full at once, rather than in segments.

For any fans who may be interested, there is an address to send birthday cards to the cast and crew for the 20th anniversary party, coming up Nov. 23rd. It is: Dr. Who Party, Box 215, Pearl River, N.Y. 10965. Cards will be forwarded to England. Which brings up a question for Channel 17 - will the 90 minute special, "A Birthday Celebration for Dr. Who" be carried that evening?

I also am very interested in seeing the Tom Baker shows again, as I did not catch them all. (Of course, the Pertwee and Troughton episodes are welcome too)!

Lastly, for any viewers as addicted as I, there are at least two organizations concerned with the Doctor: The Dr. Who Fan Club, P.O. Box 6024, Cherry Creek Station, CO 80206; and The North American Dr. Who Appreciation Society, (NADWAS for short), 6642 Andasol Ave., Van Nuys, CA 91406.

Again, thank you for repeating such an enjoyable show.

A. C. Taylor, Saratoga Springs

I wish to comment on a letter published in the "Letters to the Editor" column in your August program guide. Mr. R. P. Anderson. wrote to condemn the "new Dr. Who" stories and stars, while praising Tom Baker's days as the Doctor. He also made it quite clear that Peter Davison, is his eyes, is a poor subsitu- tion for Mr. Baker's great talent.

I must reply to this harsh criticism of Peter Davison. Mr. Davison is a very talented actor who is capable of tackling roles other than his famous Tristan Farnon in "All Creatures Great and Small." I, too, enjoyed Tom Baker in his brilliant years as Doctor Who, and I also realize that he's a tough act to follow. However, the new "Dr. Who" should have a chance to bring his own unique qualities to the role without being judged prematurely. I'm sure that with time, Baker fans will make the transition to a Davison Doctor, and (hopefully) they may enjoy watching new aspects and facets to the Doctor emerge!

As a point of interest to Peter Davison fans, I would like to mention that he can also be seen in the BBC comedy series "Sink or Swim" (as Brian). I hope that WMHT will consider picking it up, I'd be really interested in seeing it. Also, on cable TV, Davison did a show called "The Tomorrow People" which I'd also love to see, though I'm unsure of its availability. Right now, we're all enjoying full length Doctor Who movies every Sunday evening. WMHT-thanks for your great Dr. Who coverage and keep up the good work!! A. West, Germantown, N.Y.

DR. WHO fans: Don't miss THE FIVE DOCTORS, a DR. WHO birthday party special, which airs Wed., 11/23, at 9PM. -Ed.
