Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock may have legions of fans, but they're nothing compared with the 100 million fanatic followers of the world's longest running TV science-fiction series, "Dr. Who."

"Doctor what?" may be the reaction of most people tuning in on an evening of "Dr. Who" episodes on Channel 15 Saturday at 7 p.m. But Jeffersonville, Ind., resident Jane Dietz thinks anybody who takes the time to get to know the extraterrestrial will grow to love him and want him back on their TV screens.

"Dr. Who" was born on BBC television in 1963. It now plays to audiences all over the world and on more than 100 stations in the U.S., where fan clubs support their hero.

He's an odd duck with two hearts who wanders through the centuries and galaxies, dropping in on planets to fight evil wherever it lurks

Dietz, who has been campaigning for WKPC-15 to pick up "Dr. Who," is getting her wish and more on Saturday. Channel 15 invited her to host the showing of selected episodes.

She says it may be confusing at first, because viewers will be jumping into the middle of the plot, but she promises that "Dr. Who" will please if people are patient.

While Saturday's "Dr. Who" screening is a one-shot offering, a WKPC spokesman said the station might pick up the program on a regular basis if there is a strong response.
