[edit]

"Dr. Who" fans who have made the quirky British fantasy series one of the most popular on KPTS, Ch. 8, for several years will get a close look today at artifacts, costumes and memorabilia from the show.

A 48-foot trailer will be parked outside Duerksen Fine Arts Center at Wichita State University from 3 to 9 p.m. while John Nathan Turner, the show's producer, will be inside in Miller Concert Hall to answer questions about the series and the seven actors who have played the good doctor during the 24-year run.

Tickets for the "Dr. Who Celebration and Tour" are $6.50 at the door, although Channel 8 subscribers will receive $5 tickets.

Fans enter the exhibition trailer through the TARDIS, the doctor's famous time machine in the shape of an English police call box. Inside is "an experience theater" containing some of the series' most famous monsters and villains showcased with special effects animation, lighting and sound.

The traveling Dr. Who exhibit is touring 75 cities across the country, and Channel 8 is using the Wichita stop to tie in with the new season of shows, which will be on Saturday afternoons beginning in November.
