Each week everywhere from Abu Dhabi to Zimbabwe, 110 million persons tune their television sets to Doctor Who, the longest running science fiction series in the galaxy.

Five thousand Doctor Who fans (or "Whovians") are expected to assemble November 29 - December 1, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, for TARDIS 22, the world's largest Doctor Who convention.

Presented by Spirit of Light Enterprises, TARDIS 22 (The Anniversary Reunion of the Doctors in Season 22) will feature live appearances and panel discussions with 16 favorite characters from the long popular BBC export.

Among the stars will be Colin Baker, Jon Pertwee and Patrick Troughton, three of the six actors who have portrayed the Doctor, a mysterious Time Lord from an alien planet with the ability to regenerate a dozen times.

Joining the Doctor will be the performers who played his most popular companions, Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen, Romana (Lalla Ward), Tegan (Janet Fielding), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton), Leela (Louise Jameson), Turlough (Mark Strickson) and Peri (Nicola Bryant); his arch enemy, The Master (Anthony Ainley); his ally (John Levene) from the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (U.N.I.T.); the Doctor Who stunt coordinator/stunt double (Terry Walsh), and John Nathan-Turner, the producer' who has guided the show through the Doctor's last three regenerations.

The convention will offer screenings of Dr. Who episodes, question and answer panels; an extensive dealers' room stocked with memorabilia, a celebrity-judged costume contest, a multimedia history of the science fiction phenomenon and other surprises. Popular side events each day include a celebrity cabaret and a luncheon with the stars of the series.

A new feature of this year's celebration will be a preview of Blake's 7, BBC's sophisticated science fiction blockbuster new to American television. While Doctor Who is known for its humor, humanity and campy special effects, Blake's 7, was noted for its slick story lines, visual effects and high production value. TARDIS 22 guests can get a sneak preview of the series and meet two Blake's 7 stars, Paul Darrow and Jacqueline Pearce, who have also guest starred on Doctor Who.

In England Doctor Who, along with the Beatles and James Bond, have been the most enduring symbols of British pop culture for the past two decades. The Doctor's face has adorned clothing, toys, cereal boxes, candy wrappers, record albums, piles of books and other items, many of which will be on sale at the convention.

Tickets to TARDIS 22 are $40 for a three-day admission and 530 for Saturday and Sunday only.

Attendance will be limited so that all visitors have the opportunity to see each day's events. Children under five years of age will be admitted free with a paying adult.

TARDIS 22 tickets are available at Ticketmaster Ticket Centers or may be charged by phone by calling 312/559-1212. For further information, call the

TARDIS 22 hotline, 312/283-D.WHO. For phone orders outside area code 312, use the toll-free number 1-800-548-4000.
