Seemingly indestructible mechanical monsters threaten the lives of four human time capsule travellers in a new series of Dr. Who adventures, beginning Saturday, Feb. 27, at 5 p.m. on the CBC-TV network.

Dr. Who, his grandaughter Susan and their two reluctant passengers find they have exchanged the perilous world of 100,000 B.C. for greater dangers on Skaro, a distant planet that has suffered a neutron war.

Before the visitors can explore their new surroundings they are captured by a group of menacing mechanical monsters and whisked off to a magnificent city. There they are told the individual machines contain the planet's only intelligent survivors, called the Daleks, and they live in the machines to ward off the polluted atmosphere.

The dreaded Daleks also warn their captives of mutations, the Thals, who roam in the petrified jungles outside the city. However, they soon discover that the Thals are not mutations, but perfect and peaceful human specimens who are actually slaves to the Daleks.

Dr Who, his granddaughter and her teachers, Ian and Barbara, finally manage to escape the dreaded Daleks and join up with the Thals to help them in a revolt against their enemies.

British actor and film star William Hartnell plays the role of the mysterious Dr. Who. William Russell and Jacqueline Hill appear as Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright. Susan is played by actress Carole Ann Ford.
