[edit]

Jon Pertwee, actor and comedian, is to take over the role of television's most famous space traveller, Dr. Who, from Patrick Troughton when the present series ends on BBC-1 today. He will be seen for the first time in the part when the program returns in colour next January.

Patrick Troughton is leaving the cast because he wants to play other parts. To make the changeover convincing today's programme will end with the doctor undergoing a metamorphosis.

Mr. Pertwee becomes the third Dr. Who. When the programme began in November, 1963, the part was created by William Hartnell, who remained in it until November, 1966, when it was taken over by Patrick Troughton.
