Dr Who doll that sparked a Barbie backlash

IT was meant to be a celebration of Jodie Whittaker's role as the first woman Doctor Who.
But a doll of the Time Lord character created by the makers of Barbie has been branded sexist.
Critics say Miss Whittaker's likeness has been 'Barbiefied' by being given high heels and a curvy figure.
Fans expressed their outrage at the £54.99 toy on Twitter. Marian Blythe said: 'Little girls don't need your sexualised version of Doctor Who. This doll's hip, waist and bust ratio is more unbelievable than a 2,000-year-old alien with two hearts.'
Another said: 'The Doctor had been a female less than 12 hours and they reduced her to a cliched plastic plaything. Not all girls need to be Barbies.'
Toymaker Mattel insists the figure has nothing to do with its Barbie range and was specifically created in the likeness of Miss Whittaker.
David Wilson Nunn, creative director of BBC Studios, said: 'We felt it was a great opportunity to work with Mattel to create a doll based on the Thirteenth Doctor.'
