[edit]

IT'S a petrol station attendant's nightmare . .. being confronted by a giant Dalek and told to fill-it-up or be ex-ter-min-ated.

Luckily for the forecourt man, car enthusiast Andrew May's 9ft model of Dr Who's best-known enemy is not equipped with the kind of death ray seen in the TV series.

Mr May and a group of Guildford enthusiasts built the glass fibre model from an old Mini saloon. It is fully taxed for the road and capable of a top speed of 65mph.

Mr May and colleague, John Robertson, are planning to install it in the new Automata Experience Museum they are opening in York next spring.

"The head revolves and we have rigged up a tape-recorded Dalek voice, which is quite startling," Mr May said.

As well as the Dalek, the museum will feature working models from the Star Wars films and automatic toys, some dating back to 1840.
