DOCTOR WHO gained more than a million extra viewers on Saturday, boosted by the thrilling FA Cup semi-final.

The second episode of the sci-fi series peaked at 9.3million - a million up on last week's opener.

Earlier, nearly 10m tuned in to BBC1 to see Liverpool beat Chelsea. Over on ITV, You've Been Been Framed slumped to 2.1m and a Midsomer Murders repeat was seen by just 3.3m.

Next week's episode of Doctor Who will see the return of an old favourite, robot dog K9.

The cyber pooch has been given a makeover - plus its own 26-episode series. K9 Adventures is being made for children's channel Jetix Europe, a spin-off of Disney. The original K9 first appeared in Doctor Who between 1977 and 1981.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who exterminated the competition at the Welsh Bafta awards in Cardiff, picking up five trophies.

It is up for Best Drama at the national Baftas bash next month.
