Stepping down after next series


DOCTOR Who star Jodie Whittaker will quit after the next series, insiders claim.

The actress, 38, has told bosses she will step down after this autumn's run — the 13th since it was revived in 2005.

Jodie is keen to take on new roles after three series as the Time Lord.

She became the first female doctor when she took over from Thick of It star Peter Capaldi in 2017.

She addressed the prospect of leaving last month, saying: "If I even think about leaving, it makes me cry.

"When it happens, I can pre-empt it will be my most devastating moment.

"I absolutely adore it. At some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it's not yet. I'm clinging on tight."

The 13th series, which should finish filming in summer, has been cut to eight episodes because of Covid restrictions.

It will feature Scouse comedian John Bishop, 54, who was this week announced as the 13th Doctor's new companion Dan, joining Yaz, played by Mandip Gill, 32.
