HISTORIAN Gavin Fuller became the BBC's new Mastermind champion last night thanks to Doctor Who.
He beat three other intellectual heavyweights to the title after choosing the famous Timelord as one of his specialist subjects.
"I was surprised to win," said Exeter University graduate Gavin, 24, a part-time archivist at historic HMS Warrior in Portsmouth. "I didn't think I'd get past the semi-finals."
Both his parents are big Dr Who fans too, and mother Pat, 51, said: "Gavin is just crazy about him -his bedroom is like a Tardis.
"He has bought every book that has ever been written about the TV series and is now trying to collect the entire video collection.
"We were all outraged when the BBC took the show off and nothing would make Gavin happier than-to-see-it-back in its rightful place on television."
