Jetix Europe is to give Doctor Who's robot dog a comedy-fantasy show of his own, entitled K-9 Adventures.

The 26x30-minute series will be produced by Park Entertainment and K-9 Films, which was formed by writer Bob Baker and designer Paul Tams, both veterans of the classic series of Doctor Who.

Baker, who recently was one of the writers on Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit, originally co-created K-9 with Dave Martin back in 1977, and the canine companion featured in the show until 1981.

The new series will be set in space, and use a mix of cgi and live action to bring K-9 to life.

"K-9 Adventures is set to be an excellent space fantasy series that we are sure will be immensely popular particularly in the UK, following the recent revival and widespread popularity of Doctor Who," says Jetix's senior vp of programming, Michael Lekes.

K-9 has already appeared in one spin-off, when he joined Sarah Jane for K9&Co in 1981. He also appeared in the 1983 anniversary special The Five Doctors, and even popped up alongside David Tennant in the current BBC1 series.
