[edit]

LALLA WARD (above) as she appears in BBC-1's Dr Who as the doctor's glamorous assistant, Romana, and (left) how viewers will see her later in the month when she plays the part of Ophelia in BBC-2's production of Hamlet.

Unfortunately Lalla will be replaced as Doctor Who's assistant at the end of the year — by a man, actor Matthew Waterhouse.

"Dr Who mustn't have the same girl too long," says Lalla.

So sex equality has entered the space age — but it will be a pity to lose fresh-faced Lalla from the Tardis.

No doubt she will be back on our TV screens before too long.
