[edit]

THOSE Daleks, celebrated for their inability to climb stairs, ground to a halt in front of the Daily Express building yesterday, thwarted this time by the pavement kerb.

Still, there were gleeful shouts of "Exterminate! Exterminate!" all round as fans led, yes, by veteran Dr Who Jon Pertwee gathered round to admire — and all within sight of St Paul's.

But these four robots are not destined for world domination. They are among the first life-sized re-pro Daleks made under special licence from the BBC — and the Express has given away ten of them in a competition marking a film version of the series starring Paul McGann.

Four winners collected theirs yesterday. They were Ian Newbury, of Hove, Sussex, Vic Gutteridge, of Ruislip, Middlesex, Margaret Hibbens, from Kingsclere, Berkshire, and Shirley Wheeller, of Benfleet, Essex.
