OUT of this world, ahead of its time, a monstrous experience...

All these could apply to one of Llangollen's newest attractions - the Doctor Who Experience.

It was opened in June 1995 at Lower Dee Mill and is claimed to be the world's biggest exhibition dedicated to what was one of the longest running series on British television.

For the uninitiated, Dr Who was a Time Lord who travelled about the universe in a space ship called the Tardis, which looked like a police telephone box.

He would pause on his travels for encounters with various life forms such as the Daleks-who were the worst of the baddies - the Cybermen, and the Mechanoids (remember them?).

The exhibition was designed by Martin Wilkie, son of Bernard Wilkie, one of the members of the BBC special effects team behind the early Dr Who stories. John Nathan-Turner, the longest serving producer of the series, acted as consultant.

The exhibition, opened by one of the actors who played Dr Who, Colin Baker, has already attracted thousands of tourists.
