[edit]

ACTOR Patrick Troughton is to give up his role as Dr. Who, the B.B.C.'s space and time traveller.

Mr. Troughton, 48-year-old former Shakespearian actor, has been playing Dr. Who since he took over from William Hartnell in November l966.

He asked to be allowed to quit at the end of March but has agreed to stay on until June. Meanwhile the B.B.C. is looking for a replacement.

"Dr. Who" is the B.B.C.'s most popular children's serial and the corporation has decided that it must continue.
