[edit]

The beetles are coming but from outer space-- not Liverpool.

For those beetles are giant ants-men, butterfly men, dreaded larvae, and gigantic grubs.

If you're 16 or over they may bring a shudder of horror, but children will just shriek-- with delight.

These king size insects have been dreamed up-- or should it be a nightmare as Dr. Who's newest opponents next month.

After the success of the dreaded Daleks in the TV serial, the BBC are creating new horrors for the delight of the youngsters.

And to make the time travelling serial the BBC has turned the old Ealing studios home of famous Ealing, the pictures into its own chamber of horrors.

Lovable

Producer Verity Lambert said: "Parents may find this all scary, but not the children.

"There is something of a lot about a monster from outer space.

The man who makes the monsters, designer John Wood, said my younger boy Damon-- he's five-- doesn't like to watch them. But my eight-year-old son David loves monsters.

"I get my ideas from an encyclopaedia on insect life. It is a super handbook of horror."

But beneath all the fiberglass and plasterboard of the TV tears are young actors hoping to climb to stardom.

One of the monster men, 21 year-old Jack Pitt, crawled out of his walk grove outfit and said it's hard work but at least it pays the rent."
