  • DOCTOR Who is set to make his most sensational transformation ever. Plans are afoot to turn him into a woman.
  • The news broke yesterday as actor Peter Davison announced he would be quitting as the intrepid Doctor when he finishes recording the current BBC TV series due to be screened in January.
  • Peter, the fifth Dr Who, took over from Tom Baker nearly two years ago. He had planned from the start to quit after three years.
  • Now BBC chiefs plan to replace him with a woman. But producer John Nathan Turner said "Whoever it is will not be glamorous. We are looking for an older, eccentric kind of figure."

A Peter Davison said : " I've been doing this job for three series, and enough is enough."
