[edit]

A recent television viewer poll of favorite Channel 39 programming has resulted in the rescheduling of the "MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour" from 11 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. "Dr. Who," Channel 39's new nightly science-fiction series, also will gain an earlier postion, moving to 5:30 and 11 p.m. from its present 6 p.m. and midnight time periods. The changes will be effective Nov. 5.

"For the past several years, the station received very few comments about the NewsHour," stated Don Robert, WLVT-TV program director. "We wondered just how wide the audience was for the series. We found out when it became necessary to find another time slot in place of 7-8 p.m., which is to be dedicated to new program acquisitions, computer series, children's programming, home improvement, health series and local public affairs in 1984-85.

"It's evident from our survey that the audience is dedicated and loyal, and a significant majority have said they prefer 6 p.m. to the later time," Robert added. "We try to listen to our community, and that is what public television is all about."

"PBS LateNight America," with Dennis Wholey, will be programmed "live" every evening at 11:30, also starting Nov. 5. Other Channel 39 presentations, now in the 5:30-7 p.m. time period, will be rescheduled.
