Sexy Nicola's dressing down

GRABBING attention from a colourful star — especially Doctor Who — is not easy.
But Nicola Bryant, who co-stars as Dr Who's offsider, Peri, seems to have done just that.
With Colin Baker as the Doctor, Peri appears as his faithful assistant in the new series being screened on ABC TV, weeknights at 6.35, Monday to Thursday.
She won a legion of fans when the series was shown in Britain. They all liked her — but some said she should have been more modest.
The trouble? Peri's low-cut, clinging costumes.
And Nicola admitted that she "wasn't too crazy" about the sexy garb.
"I got a lot of letters which described the costumes as tasteless and annoying," said the 22-year-old actress, "maybe that was because it's a family show.
"Some of them wrote saying 'poor old you, why do you have to wear that'?"
But busy Nicola had little time to worry about the great costume debate.
Dashing around the galaxy zapping Daleks, Cyber-men and other alien fiends took up most of her free time.
For 10 months out of 12, she worked six days a week on the show — from 8.30 am to 10.30 pm some days.
And the exhaustion that sometimes struck made Nicola think she wouldn't survive.
Her remedy for recovery was shedding the sexy Peri image, donning jeans and an old cardigan and finally collapsing in front of the telly.
Before Nicola became an intergalactic cutie she concentrated on music.
She plays the flute, piano and guitar and says that last year she wrote 50 songs.
Although the future of Dr Who and Nicola's role in it is still undecided, she would eventually like to enter the razzamatazz of showbiz.
"I'd like to write and choreograph a musical," she says.
In the meantime, next week's Doctor Who adventure is called Vengeance on Varos — it's on Varos the Doctor learns that video games are not always fun!
