DOCTOR WHO is to materialise on TV again as the long-running scifi series is screened again for the first time in six years.

BBC2 is to rerun stories of the well-loved Time Lord, beginning with the first colour episode, Spearhead From Space, which was also the first to feature third Doctor Jon Pertwee emerging from the Tardis.

The shows will be screened in a regular Tuesday evening slot from November 16, after a Doctor Who theme night on BBC2 this Saturday which will be introduced by the fourth Doctor, Tom Baker.

It features a documentary about his galactic foes and a show about the phenomenon of the Doctor, whose enemies terrorised early evening TV screens for three decades.

The TV revival is not unexpected. Fans had been speculating about a rerun of the shows for many months.

Baker, the longest-serving Doctor famed for his multi-coloured scarf, revealed in the new edition of Radio Times that he has been asked to reprise his role for a series of audio books.

But he said: "I don't think I'll do it. Best leave it as it is. Moving pictures confer a kind of immortality and that's one of the wonderful things about being an actor; you live forever."

There is still talk of a new feature film being made about the Doctor and names thrown up on fans' websites and in fanzines have included Denzel Washington, Laurence Fishburne and Patrick Stewart.
