ONE Saturday afternoon recently I told our three-year-old son for the tenth time that he and his younger brother could not have television on because I was studying.

He came back shortly after with a figure of rods and wheels from a toy construction set, thrust it under my nose, and said in a voice as much like a Dalek as possible: 'We want tele on.'

Does the BBC realise that this type of programme gives children a means to scare the old man?
