[edit]

Philip Thomas, of Hither Green, London, a visitor today to the opening of the Schoolboys' and Girls' Exhibition at the Empire Hall, Olympia, meets two robots and a green monster from the "Dr. Who" television programme.

Philip posed on the stand to the envy of other boys (background, right).

The green monster was designed by one of the youthful competitors in the recent "Dr. Who" Monster Competition, sponsored by the Children's Magazine programme. "Blue Peter," on B.B.C.-1, and was built by the B.B.C.-TV Visual Effects Department.

In the exhibition were daleks and disc jockeys, painting and parachutes, karts and gymnastics.

Big attractions were big stands from Bradford and Hull. One offered girls a 10-minute hairset with heated rollers—and the other demonstrated a new instant-modelling material for budding sculptors.

Education without tears included science displays by London schools, glimpses of life in Scotland Yard and the Forces, and a careers advice theatre set up by the Minister of Labour.
