While this 1996 film is relatively faithful to the long-running cult classic, knowledge of the complex Doctor Who mythology is not a prerequisite for viewing (but it is recommended). The plot follows the good Doctor (played by Sylvester McCoy and, later, Paul McGann) as he faces his archenemy, the Master, in San Francisco. It's the last day of 1999, and the Master (Eric Roberts) is planning to steal the Doctor's remaining lives—a scheme that also threatens the existence of time and space as we know it.
