THE new girl in the life of Doctor Who, the TV sci-fi hero whose adventures are followed by millions of Australians, has made a rather dramatic debut. In more ways than one.

The [[broadwcast:Planet of Fire|first episode]] of the latest series required 22-year-old Nicola Bryant to be saved from drowning. And on location in the Canary Islands, the cameras, lights and other equipment were set up on a cliff-top.

ACTION! Miss Bryant thrashed about in the sea below, screaming for help.

Oh dear. Not far away was a nudist beach, where a dashing young German male tourist, built like a Panzer lieutenant, heard the sounds and dived to the rescue.

But on reaching the screaming Miss Bryant, he was thanked politely and told to lease.

Incensed, the lad swam back to whence he came, pausing only to raise two fingers of defiance at the camera crew.

When will we see this episode? Knowing the [[broadwcast:Australia|ABC]] it will not be until both Nicola and the young German are in their respective wheelchairs.
