[edit]

Last week's interesting letter defending Catherine Tate in Dr Who set me thinking.

If the show is constantly reinventing itself — and it does it very well — why not actually have a woman at the controls of the Tardis next time a change of actor is required.

There is no reason the central character has to be male and I remember an old episode (pre remake) that actually had a female Time Lord as a companion.

There is not even a suggestion that the title would have to be changed as Dr Who can be a man or a woman.

So how about making the leading man a lady — but please not Catherine Tate.
