Full-size TARDIS there for Saturday event

RACINE — Don't look now, but a full-size TARDIS has materialized inside the Racine Public Library.

The TARDIS, which stands for "time and relative dimension in space: is the name for the time machine and spacecraft that propels the lead character of the "Dr. Who" television series — aptly named "The Doctor" — through a seemingly infinite number of adventures.

One of those adventures takes place Saturday night at the Racine Public Library, where the Friends of the Racine Public Library is hosting "An Evening with the Doctor," an all-ages family-friendly Dr. Who-themed event.

The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh Street. People interested in attending are welcome to preregister with the library online at www.racineli-brary.info or by phone at 262-636-9217.

The event features all sorts of fun Dr. Who-themed things to do including a team trivia contest, costume contest, Weeping Angel cookie decorating, Doctor Who/River Song-themed journal creating, a photo booth with the aforementioned TARDIS, Dalek and Doctor cutouts, coloring and other crafts such as tile coaster and mask creation. There will be a screening of the 1996 "Dr. Who" movie. The costume contest will have six winners: Best Doctor, Best Enemy, Best Companion, in two age groups: children (12 and under) and adult/teens (13 and older). Judging begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be prizes.

The Friends of the Racine Public Library is sponsoring this event with the library. The Friends contribute time, effort and resources to promote and support the library and community programs.
