Dr. Who is that the fighting for his screen life. Zap goes the violence and in comes the rapier wit. Colin Baker said: "From now on I shall uses wit instead of Dirty Harry tactics to solve my confrontations."

The Doctor was pulled off our screens for a year because the show was "too tired and too violent : Now writers are giving the points a tonic for the new series, tellingly called Dr Who On Trial. During it the Doctor's companion, Peri - played by Nicola Bryant - will vanish forever, to be the replaced by Bonnie Langford.
