[edit]

THE character of Doctor Who, Time Lady of Gallifrey, is safe with Jodie Whittaker. She has just proved that by sailing stylishly through the equally ridiculous BBC1 plot of Trust Me. Jodie, left, plays a nurse who steals an emigrating friend's identity to pose as a doctor, trusting that not only will nobody check her references and smell a rat, but that she'll get a bank account in the new name without a passport and a bundle of utility bills.

If it's set in modern Britain, that is positively sci-fi in its improbability (even my mum once had to prove her ID three ways after 67 years with the same branch).

After that role, nothing with tentacles, fangs or X-ray vision will make our Jodie look anything but cool and composed.
