Rouser John Bishop joins the Doctor in 'dream' role

JOHN Bishop has told of his joy at joining Doctor Who, calling it a dream.

The Scouse comedian will play a character called Dan alongside Jodie Whittaker's Time Lord and companion Mandip Gill.

He said: "If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the TARDIS, I'd never hive believed it.

"It's an absolute dream come true to be joining Doctor Who and I couldn't wish for better company than Jodie and Mandip"

The Mirror revealed last month how Bishop, 54, was joining the cast of the long-running BBC show.

Show boss Chris Chibnall said: "Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit.

"The character of Dan was built for him, and it's a joy to have him aboard the TARDIS." Bishop also revealed he has been "overwhelmed" by support since he and wife Melanie tested positive for Covid-19 on Christmas Day.

He tweeted: "I was moved by the amount of messages privately and publicly.

"Every day we are getting a little stronger and I will be back at work in Jan. Keep safe and Happy New Year."

Bishop had told how coronavirus was "the worst illness I have ever had".

He added: "Debilitating headaches, muscle joint and even skin pain, dizziness, nausea, no appetite, incredibly chronic fatigue.

"My wife and I are fit non-smokers and it's flattened us. I don't wish this disease on anyone:"

Bishop-and Melanie have been married since 1993 and they have three sons.
