Sir-I'm must contradict one aspect of Sylvia Clayton's interesting article (Aug. 14) on "All-American dreams" as imported for British television.

In stating that "we (the British) do not compete successfully with such fantasy adventures as 'Star Trek,'" Miss Clayton appears to have discounted "Doctor Who" which, if only for having run longer than any other series of that type demands consideration as the best "fantasy adventure" ever shown.

Obviously the requirements of commercial American television and the BBC to ensure a programme's longevity are somewhat different, but through several periods of financial cutbacks at the BBC "Doctor Who" continued and flourish, with an ever increasing viewing audience.
